Club Championships

The annual Club Championships are open to all Club members and provide a great opportunity for swimmers of all levels to advance their swimming. For some members this may represent their first steps in their competitive swimming career, for others, a chance to improve on their ‘personal bests’ and even receive an award. The Championships cover all strokes, at various distances, for all age groups. You can choose which events you wish to enter and are under no obligation to swim in all the races for your age group, although you are very welcome to do so if you wish.

Entry forms are usually handed out in November of each year. The Championships usually start in November with the finals in February the following year.

The age groups are based on your age at the 31st December each year. For example, if you have your 12th birthday anytime in 1994 you will swim as a 12 year old in all swims, even though you may be only 11 when some of the swims occur.

If you are relatively new to competitive swimming and do not have previous recorded times for the events you wish to enter, do not worry. Simply tick the relevant box on the entry form and you will be entered into one of the earlier heats in that event.

Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th places for each age group in an event. Results will be posted on noticeboards and on the website when available.

Diddy (Junior) Championships

The Diddy Championships for swimmers aged 7 - 12 are held in May and June each year.  Around Easter time entry forms are given out to eligible swimmers.  The age groups are 8/U (including 7 year olds), 9/u, 10/u, 11/u and 12/u with age as 'at the end of the year' and the various events are shown in the table below.

Swimmers are encouraged to enter all the events for which they are eligible.  It is a good opportunity for swimmers to swim under gala conditions, monitor progress and gain recorded times.  The Diddy Finals night is normally held in June and heats, for events with more than six competitors are held in May.  Full details will be on the entry form and details of heats and finals night are posted on the Club noticeboard and the website.

Medals are awarded to those coming 1st to 6th.  Trophies are also awarded to those coming first in each event and various special awards are also made.  Swimmers are responsible for engraving trophies and returning them by the deadline of next year's championships.
