Competitive Swimming

An Overview to County Championships and Galas

Intended for club swimmers and those beginning to enter individual open competition. These meets must have an advertised upper qualifying time. Electronic timing is not compulsory, although preferred. Times achieved at these meets may be used for entry into meets at levels two and three and into County Championships.

There are normally two to three Home Galas each year, as indicated on the Fixtures list.  Team lists and events lists are posted on the website and on the noticeboard.  Names should be ticked on the team list to indicate availability as soon as possible.  Squad Co-ordinators will check the list and contact swimmers who have not indicated that they are available.  The warm-up time will be posted as well and swimmers need to be at the pool 10-15 minutes before warm-up is due to start.  Parents/guardians who are not helping on poolside will need to wait outside until the doors open.  Help is appreciated in setting out poolside seating for timekeepers and spectators etc.

Spectators may watch from the upstairs seating area or on poolside.  At the end of the gala, all Witney swimmers are expected to remain on poolside until the final results are announced.  Before going to the changing rooms, ensure that all rubbish, clothing, towels, goggles and drinks bottles have been picked up.  The Club Captains or Junior Captains collect any trophy on behalf of the Club.

The Team Manager selects a swimmer of the match and runner-up and these are announced at the next training session if not done at the time.  A 'coveted' yellow duck is awarded to the swimmer of the match and runner-up.   A full results list with times achieved including PBs (Personal Bests) and any Club Records (CR) will be marked on the results list.
